I Don’t Worry About my (Restricted) Data Security

July 13 @ 10:20 am - 11:05 am

Restricted data is everywhere. Yikes! Researchers and faculty want to get their work done and not be bothered with becoming IT security experts. (Can you blame them?) Often IT security is viewed as something that makes their job harder, yet in light of highly publicized breaches at major companies and Universities, is something that is more critical than ever. What are we to do? What solutions are available today, and how does the campus Risk Management Framework play into all of this? In this talk, you’ll learn how we approached this problem at the Social Science Computing Cooperative (SSCC), what problems we encountered, and the specific steps we took to address these concerns.

Attendees will leave convinced that it can’t be business as usual when it comes to IT security and restricted data, they’ll have a greater understanding of the RMF process at UW Madison, and better understand the options for securely working with restricted data. Finally, they’ll hear a real life case study and the lessons learned when building a restricted data enclave.
